It has been a few months since Subaru introduced the all-new 2025 Forester. Like many others, I was surprised to learn that there was no hybrid version in the lineup. A bit of patience was required, but the Japanese automaker has just announced that a hybrid variant will indeed join the Forester range for the 2025 model year.
The Subaru Forester Hybrid is expected to hit the market sometime in mid-2025, which is excellent news for fans of the model.
A New Powertrain?
Details about the engine for this new version of the popular Japanese SUV remain unknown. Rumors suggest that the Forester Hybrid could be powered by Toyota technology, which seems quite plausible. It might even feature the same powertrain found in the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. However, it’s worth noting that Subaru still offers a Crosstrek Hybrid in certain markets. That model is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.
The Subaru Forester is already a fuel-efficient vehicle in its standard version. Subaru estimates its average fuel consumption at 9.1 L/100 km in the city and 7.2 L/100 km on the highway. Therefore, we can expect the upcoming hybrid version to achieve impressively low fuel consumption figures.
Pricing Expectations
As for pricing, anything is possible. In the past, Subaru has offered its hybrid powertrains only in the highest trim levels. Currently, the 2025 Forester lineup ranges in price from $36,161 to $47,661. Thus, we can expect the hybrid version(s) to be even more expensive. That said, I believe the Japanese automaker\'s SUV will remain an attractive option nonetheless.
