Today's market is flooded with sport utility vehicles of all kinds, but do all the models in this category truly deserve such a designation? In fact, the answer is no, as some are far from sporty and others are even less utilitarian. Fortunately, there are models like the Forester that tick all the boxes. The Japanese manufacturer's SUV is practical, versatile, and comfortable in everyday life. Its off-road driving capabilities make it an ideal partner for your wild weekend adventures off the beaten path. It's one of the few models that meet the needs of the majority of buyers.
Subaru has made a significant update for the 2025 Forester with enhanced styling, several new features, and advanced technologies added to the formula. While this sixth generation brings something new, the Japanese manufacturer has been more conservative than usual in its approach. In other words, it's a happy blend of the best elements of the previous generation and the additions of the new generation, resulting in a rather interesting finished product.
Range and Price
The 2025 Subaru Forester lineup is divided into 5 versions, starting with the Convenience model with a starting price of $36,161. Then comes the Touring version at $41,161. The latter benefits from a host of additional features, which explains the price difference. Next is the Sport version at $43,661, which arrives with a frankly interesting look with bronze-finish wheels and several elements. The Limited version follows on the list at $45,661. Finally, the Premier version tops the range at $47,661.
Category and Competition
The 2025 Subaru Forester operates in one of the industry's most competitive categories, namely mainstream compact SUVs. Some manufacturers focus on diversity. On the other hand, the Forester's offering is more limited, but its quality and simplicity are very appreciable.
Rivals: Chevrolet Equinox, Dodge Hornet, Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-50, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, Toyota Rav4, Volkswagen Tiguan
Design and Technologies
Let's talk about the design of the Japanese SUV since the transformation is quite radical here. The style has completely changed with a more subdued look at the front and stronger character traits on the profile. The new Forester design gives the impression that the roof is floating in the air. Then, the shape of the wheel arches is more aggressive than ever, clearly inspired by the WRX. However, the biggest change is at the front. The distinctive C-shaped headlights have been replaced by straighter and thinner headlights, and the same goes for the taillights. Some may say this makes the Forester more anonymous, but I much prefer this new design to the old one. It gives the Forester a more modern and serious look.
The interior has not evolved along the same theme as we have a typically Subaru-designed console. This one is simply more imposing, and the dashboard remains very classic in its style, which is much appreciated. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer has mainly focused its efforts on the quality of the finish and materials chosen for the interior. Believe me when I say that this is the kind of thing that makes all the difference, and it's even truer in the long run.
As always, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV remains a leader in technology. Its multimedia system is pleasant to use, and all its technologies are effective. The driving aids are present without being intrusive. Moreover, the new generation Forester now offers an 11.6-inch screen.
Performance
Once again, the brand is very conservative in terms of the mechanical aspect of the 2025 Forester. Even though we have a new generation, the model still offers the same 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The latter delivers 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for a model of this size. However, I won't hide that I'm a bit disappointed that Subaru did not decide to offer a more economical engine or at least an electrified powertrain.
The only engine offered by the Japanese manufacturer's SUV remains very efficient nonetheless, quite the contrary. As always, the power is transmitted to all four wheels via a CVT. The 2025 Forester offers healthy and predictable handling, not to mention its phenomenal off-road driving capabilities.
Weak Points
The fact that there is only one engine option is certainly a disadvantage compared to the competition. Its more anonymous style makes it less noticeable.
Strong Points
Its new design is very elegant, and its interior offers superior quality finishing. Its off-road driving performance is far above average. Its all-wheel-drive system is remarkably efficient.
Signature Element
The Subaru Forester is renowned for its all-wheel-drive system and simplicity. It stands out because it has no major or even minor flaws.
Final Word
The 2025 Subaru Forester is the kind of vehicle you choose when you think you need two vehicles to meet all your needs. On one hand, there's the practical and economical SUV for everyday life. Then, there's the ideal means of transport to get to where adventures await.
