Subaru WR STI 210S 2025: The Return of the STI?

Like most fans of the Subaru WRX, I was saddened to learn that the legendary STI version would not be included in the new generation lineup. It’s as if Ford were to remove the Dark Horse version, offering only the GT model of the Mustang. In short, the potential return of the STI version is enough to brighten the day of many car enthusiasts.

However, there’s a catch, and I want to share it with you before you get your hopes up. Yes, there will be an STI version in the Subaru WRX lineup this year. However, production will be limited to just 500 units. This special edition will be called the S210.

Enhanced Performance

Based on the information we have so far, the S210 will feature several elements found on the Japanese WRX S4 STI Sport R EX version. This new limited edition will benefit from numerous technical upgrades, starting with significantly more aggressive aerodynamic components compared to the regular WRX. For example, it will include a massive carbon fiber rear wing. Engineers have also taken the opportunity to upgrade the suspension with higher-performance shocks.

What’s even more exciting is under the hood. The power of the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be significantly increased. Reports suggest output of over 300 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the current regular Subaru WRX produces 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This extra power has been achieved through new turbocharger components, improved air intake, a redesigned exhaust system, and a complete engine re-tune.

Subaru has chosen to pair this model with a CVT transmission instead of the classic manual gearbox—a decision that will undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows. Nevertheless, I’m confident the automaker will have no trouble selling all 500 units. Unfortunately, it’s still unclear whether Canada will be among the markets where this new special edition will be available.
